Teddy, a lovely 9 year old cocker spaniel presented to us with a burst abscess on the left side of his chest.

A CT scan showed a kebab skewer in Teddy’s stomach that had penetrated through the body wall to the area of his 10th rib.  Thankfully after surgical removal of the skewer and several weeks of wound management with laser therapy, Teddy has made a full recovery.

The CT scan was carried out on our in-house CT scanner here at Millennium.  Teddy was moved to surgery to have the kebab skewer removed.  This could be seen clearly on the scan and was the cause of the abscess that Teddy presented with.

Following the surgery Teddy was cared for by our nursing staff and his wounds managed using dressings and laser therapy here in practice to help and encourage the healing process.  Teddy was a star patient throughout and his owners report that he gets very excited when coming to his visits at the practice, which is lovely to hear.

We presented Teddy with one of our Pet Bravery Award, which by the photo you can see how happy he was to receive it.  We have all really got attached to him and his bubbly personality.  His owners were very pleased to have him home, though keeping Teddy calm whilst recovering from his surgery was sometimes a struggle!

Teddy's owners wanted us to add ...  "Teddy is a lively character and we want everyone to know the importance of getting your pet checked over by a vet if you have any concerns.  Having pet insurance is invaluable as it helps to make these unexpected situations less stressful when treatment and surgery is needed."

We are pleased Teddy has made a full recovery and look forward to seeing him at future visits without any involvement of kebab sticks!
