Educational / School Visits

Over the years we have visited many pre- and primary schools, talking to them about pet health care and animal welfare. It is important to us to educate the adults of the future and reach a wider audience other than just our clients at the practice.

A normal visit would include meeting some of our animals, teaching handling techniques, first aid and bandaging and talking about how we look after our pets. Specifically promoting the five freedoms to the children help them to compare our needs as humans to that of animals and how it really isn’t that different and also the Dogs Trust initiative 'Be Dog Smart' which teaches children how to be safe around dogs.

We are also happy to slot into specific areas of the primary years curriculum and have added the animal touch to subjects like anatomy, dental care, diet and exercise giving the animal side for their comparison. We also send the class home with a goody bag full of information and activities!

We have taken school assemblies to give presentations on animal welfare in a child friendly way and attend careers events to promote the veterinary profession.

Schools are not the only organisations we visit. We have also visited both children and adults with special needs.

Our practice is very busy from 7am - 10pm, so we prefer to come out to you - but everyone is welcome to visit on our Open Day's and have a look round.   If you would like us to visit your school or centre then please ring 01376 325511 and we will try and accommodate you.
