Registered Veterinary Nurse

Nursing Experience: I started nursing in 1990 and qualified in 1992.   I have been lucky to have many different nursing experiences and help nurse a wide variety of species; (including lion cubs, giraffes and kangaroos!). I gained my Advanced Diploma in Veterinary Nursing in 1997 when working as a senior surgical nurse at the Royal Veterinary College. More recently I became a Cat Advocate, (through our practice's ISFM Silver Cat Friendly Clinic status) in 2016; a DEIP advocate (through the developing emotional intelligence in puppies program) in 2017 and gained the Nurse Certificate in Animal Behaviour in 2018, through the European School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies.

My previous jobs have also included lecturing, general nursing in New Zealand, a spell as Head Nurse and also a Training Manager for a large group of practices in London.  I started working part time at the Millennium Veterinary Practice in 2003 and have been there ever since. I am more at home in general practice and enjoy the variety of patient our practice has.  My nursing skills continue to grow and I firmly believe that you are never too old to learn!  I work part time and along side my role as a consulting nurse, I assist with behaviour cases, run our practice Puppy Preskool and Kitty-Cat Parent Klasses and I also help manage the practice's day to day PR and marketing opportunities.

Interests: Educating members of the public about animal welfare is a real interest of mine and there is nothing more rewarding than visiting a class of primary school children with a selection of animals!

I have a real interest in the political side of Veterinary Nursing and have been President of the British Veterinary Nursing Association and a member of the RCVS Veterinary Nursing Council.  I was presented with the RCVS VN Golden Jubilee Award in 2015 for outstanding contribution to the veterinary nursing profession.  I am heavily involved in the District Veterinary Nurse (DVN) Development Group, which was established in early 2018 and is working to make this new emerging role a reality across the UK.

Clinically I am particularly interested in animal behaviour and weight management support for our patients.

Activities: Outside of work, my husband (vet and Director Robin Creighton) and our two children keep me busy with our large family of pets (many are rescued). Our indoor pets currently consist of our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Rainbow, her Mummy Suki and Chester our ginger DSH cat.
