Canine Arthritis Month: Early detection in YOUNG dogs FREE STANCE ANALYSIS

Like us, dogs of any age can develop subtle changes in their stance (how they stand) that might indicate underlying issues, not only as they age but also when young e.g. in adolescence. Stance analysis looks at how your dog stands, providing insight into their joint and muscle health. Early signs of arthritis or balance issues can be detected through this simple but effective test, helping you take action before problems worsen. Regardless of findings, even normal results will allow us to set a baseline for future analysis throughout your dogs life.

Why baseline stance readings and early detection in young dogs under 5 years old is important:

Early intervention can make a huge impact on your pet's quality of life.   Did you know that 2 in 5 young dogs have arthritis.  Observing your dog and knowing the early signs to look out for alongside the stance analysis go a long way to this early detection.  We're on a mission to spark the conversation!  Book your FREE stance analysis during March, contact us on Petapp or ring 01376 325511.

Canine Arthritis Month for Young Dogs:

During this month, we are offering a FREE initial assessment using our Stance Analysis machine.  This will record your dog's posture and movement, which might be affecting their overall health.  Age is no limitation and all dogs will benefit from having this analysis completed.  What's more these readings will give us a baseline analysis for future stance assessments.  Whether your dog is an agility athlete, your running companion, loves to be out and about enjoying the great outdoors or simply pottering at home - your dog will benefit from this.

What to expect:

Our Registered Veterinary Nurses will conduct the stance analysis.  To ensure we gather the most accurate information, you will be asked to complete an assessment about your dog's lifestyle and mobility. (For this information scroll to the bottom of this page).  This will give us a clearer picture of your dog's everyday activities, potential stress points, and areas that may require attention.  Your dog will be walked onto the stance mat, where he/she needs to stand naturally with a foot on each individual square.  (Note: This can be carried out on 4 and 3 legged dogs.)  It is likely that your dog will be taken though to the stance machine without you, this is to avoid distractions and get them to stand still for the analysis.  If you have any concerns with this please let your nurse know.

Your dog's results:

If the stance analysis reveals any indication of arthritic changes or balance issues, we will advise a follow-up consultation with your vet.  While the stance analysis is completely free during our Arthritis Month the vet consultation is chargeable.  If this ties in with your dog's annual vaccination or 6-month health exam on their MVP Care Plan, there will be no additional consultation charge.  We what to help you ensure your dog receives the best possible care.

What can you do to help your young dog:

With the correct approach and where necessary, treatment; your dog can enjoy more pain-free days throughout their life and maintain their playful, active lifestyle for longer.  Regardless of the results, interventions may such as changes in their exercise routine, maintaining a healthy weight, aids at home (e.g. carpet runners / raising water and food bowls and training in the use of a ramp for car travel or steps for the sofa), joint supplements or even physical therapy such as hydrotherapy - will go a long way to protecting their joints from a young age.  All of which can greatly improve their quality of life.
