    Independent Primary Care and Referral Centre looking for a new Veterinary Surgeon.

    Sadly, our Australian colleague is relocating, and we are looking to replace her. We are a 100% independent practice and are not part of a group or chain of clinics. MVP is owned by two committed directors and we are happy to support you. We are very keen to hear your ideas and value your opinion.     We are proud of our highly dedicated, friendly and compassionate vets. We have trained receptionists, administrative team and support staff. MVP is a student nurse training practice with a high number of long-term experience qualified veterinary nurses supporting you and training the next generation. Our lovely 14 strong qualified nursing team are here to help and support you with their dedicated consulting nurse clinics in preventive health care, nutrition, weight management, diabetes and behaviour. Along with a further 3 trainee nurses our nursing team is structured with allocated consulting, ward and theatre nursing teams to make every aspect of your working day as positive and easy as possible. We have a purpose-built veterinary clinic with ample parking, consulting rooms and dedicate feline and canine waiting and ward areas.

    You will have freedom to work-up your cases with access to our on-site lab with dedicated nurse attendance, digital radiography, 2 ultrasound machines, endoscopy and CT scanner with inhouse interpretation.

    Main Purpose of role
    • Small animal general practitioner as part of a 11-vet team
    • Taking patient history, performing clinical examinations, formulating differential diagnosis lists and planning diagnostic investigations
    • Communicating with staff and clients

    Key responsibilities and duties
    • Performing patient physical examinations and advising the client clearly of findings and recommendations
    • Broad medicine, surgery and diagnostic work (we refer very little) with a share of first opinion consulting and theatre work with designated blocks, to split the day
    • Clinical freedom with responsibility for your own patients’ care with a supportive environment surrounded by medical and surgical advanced practitioners
    • Preventative health care, including delivering part of our MVP Care Plan alongside our RVN consult team
    • Checking patient records and authorising repeat prescriptions
    • GP work based at Braintree, with limited shifts at our local Coggeshall branch (open 2 days a week) to cover your colleague’s holiday
    • Share of very limited OOH work
    • Potential to join MVP Referral team (dependent on qualifications); including diagnostic imaging with access to inhouse 16-slice CT scanner, digital radiography and endoscopy. MVP takes orthopaedic, dermatology, medical oncology and soft tissue referrals.

    Working hours, pattern and rota

    The main clinic operates by appointment 8am-8pm weekdays and 8am-6pm Saturdays

    • Share of shifts with allocated break/catch-up times and one-hour lunch break
    • Allocated consulting and theatre time
    • 15-minute consultations by appointment
    • A full time colleague works an average 35 hour week. Composing of:
      • A 4-day week
      • 1-5 Saturdays (8.30am- 6pm)
      • 1-10 Sundays for inpatients only, if there is no inpatients you have a free Sunday
      • Weekday shifts may vary from 8am-4.30pm, 8am-6pm, 9am-7pm or 11am-8pm with one-hour inpatient duties until 9pm (1 in 10 weekdays)
      • Two 4.30pm finishes each week leaves you plenty of time for leisure activities
      • Weekends rota for the whole year so you can plan your free time
    • Part time hours offered on discussion
    • 6.6 weeks annual leave including bank holidays. (FYI the directors typically do the bank holidays so you can relax and enjoy them!)
    • OOH to local VetsNow clinic. RVN and ward assistant also on shift and on-site to look after our own inpatients, so we do not transport our inpatients

    Salary

    Considered and offered, dependent on experience and post registration qualifications
    Up to £80,000 pro-rota plus benefits.
    There is the potential of an annual profit-sharing bonus. 
    We don’t set you financial targets.
