🐾 Pet Bravery Award – Mikey’s Remarkable Recovery 🐾
This cheeky little chap is known for turning heads everywhere he goes – full of character, energy, and charm.
On one of the hottest days of the year, 1st July, Mikey’s evening stroll took an unexpected turn. While walking along the sea wall at Heybridge Basin, a car came around the corner and tragically ran over one of Mikey’s back legs. His owner recalls the heart-breaking moment — Mikey cried out in pain, and it was immediately clear he was badly hurt.
A kind passer-by stopped and rushed Mikey and his owner straight to the emergency vets at Vets Now, Spring Lodge in Witham. The initial outlook wasn’t good, and there was concern that Mikey might even lose his leg. Thankfully, X-rays revealed he was incredibly lucky — though he’d suffered deep wounds and lost skin from his foot, the leg was intact and could be saved with care and time.
The following day, Mikey came to Millennium Veterinary Practice, where he was seen by Stefaan, who led his care throughout, with support from Shaun and Tina, and the rest of the nursing team. Over the next five weeks, Mikey showed incredible bravery and patience as he healed. Through bandage changes, checks, and plenty of TLC, this little fighter never lost his spark (or his appetite for attention!).
Thanks to the dedication of his care team — and Mikey’s own determination — his wounds have healed beautifully, and he’s back to his bright, tail-wagging self once again.
A huge well done to Mikey, our Pet Bravery Award winner, and a big thank you to his devoted owner for her kindness and trust throughout his recovery journey. ❤️
