πΎ Preparing Your Pets for Fireworks β 24 Hours to Go
Create a Safe, Quiet Space
Set up a cosy area where your pet can retreat to if they feel anxious.
β’ Use blankets, their favourite bed or crate, and familiar toys
β’ Keep the area dimly lit
β’ If possible, choose a room away from windows and external noise
β’ Some pets find comfort in a piece of clothing that smells like you
Keep Them Indoors
Cats and dogs should be kept inside before dusk.
β’ Ensure your garden is secure for last toilet trips
β’ Close windows, curtains and blinds to help muffle sound
β’ Make sure your pet is microchipped and your details are up to date β just in case they get spooked
Distract with Sound & Calm Activity
β’ Play relaxing music, a TV show, or white noise to reduce the sudden impact of bangs
β’ Offer gentle play, chews or puzzle toys to help keep focus away from the noise
β’ Try to stay calm yourself β pets often pick up on our emotions
