Timothy's Pet Bravery Award

When 11-year-old Timothy became unusually lethargic, stopped eating and developed laboured breathing, his owners knew something was seriously wrong.

At Millennium Veterinary Practice, Vet Laura carried out a thorough examination and blood tests, which led to a diagnosis of Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) a serious disease caused by a mutated form of coronavirus. Antiviral treatment was started immediately, giving Timothy the best possible chance of recovery.

Timothy was extremely unwell and spent three nights in the practice receiving intensive care. His treatment included intravenous fluids, drainage of fluid from around his lungs and the placement of a feeding tube, as he had not eaten properly for more than a week.

By the fourth day, Timothy was already showing encouraging signs of improvement. He began purring, responding to attention and moving around more comfortably. Within five days of starting antiviral treatment, he began eating again.

Timothy is now on day 64 of his 84-day treatment and has returned to his lively, energetic self. Most importantly, he is once again the first cat in the household to appear whenever the fridge door opens!
