Biscuit and his nine lives

The netting had become tightly wrapped around his back legs, leaving him distressed and causing severe swelling and damage to his left leg.

Biscuit was admitted straight away so that we could make him comfortable, give him fluids and monitor him closely. Thankfully, X-rays showed that he had not broken any bones. However, the netting had badly affected the blood flow to his injured leg, and we were very concerned that the damage might be permanent.

At one stage, Biscuit had lost feeling in his foot, and it seemed likely that his leg would need to be amputated. His owner was determined to give this young cat every possible chance—and Biscuit was clearly just as determined.

Over the following days, Biscuit received strong pain relief, medication and careful wound care. Slowly, we began to see some encouraging signs. The swelling started to reduce, Biscuit began eating, and he was able to stand and take a few steps on his injured leg.

Once he was well enough to return home, Biscuit continued to make remarkable progress. At each check-up, his leg looked better. He gradually became more confident using it, his wounds healed and the swelling eventually disappeared completely.

Against the odds, Biscuit kept his leg and was soon able to return to the outdoor life he loves.

In recognition of his courage and incredible recovery, Biscuit was presented with our Pet Bravery Award. His owner shared:

“Thank you so much for Biscuit’s award for his bravery. He has used all nine lives up but carries on being affectionate on his terms. He is mostly an outdoor cat—even letting the birds pinch his food! Thank you all again for his excellent care. He was too young to let him go without a fight.”

Biscuit’s journey is a wonderful story of bravery, determination and the special bond between a pet and his owner. We are incredibly proud of him and delighted to see him back outside, enjoying life on his own terms.
